Bio-Resources, Climate and Development

Specifically, it involves:

1. Investigating climate and development impacts of alternative scenarios for food, feed fuel and fibre, with special emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa.
2. Evaluating land use impacts from expanded bioenergy production and use.
3. Assessing the climate impacts associated with traditional biomass use, based on current estimates of black carbon emissions from cooking.

Our work combines quantitative modelling, participatory research and document analysis, looking at key future trends, such as changes in eating habits, as well as at development opportunities arising from the replacement of traditional biomass with modern and efficient energy options. Our goal is to develop a North-South partnership for policy analysis and evaluation in this field, as well as an internationally deployable land-use model, a food-feed-fibre-fuel framework, a regionally disaggregated model for black carbon mitigation costs, and multiple publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles.
