Internship: SEI Tallinn climate projects

SEI Tallinn is seeking a motivated intern for its Climate Systems and Energy Policy Unit to support projects and funding proposals related to weather, water and climate.

Contract details

Minimum two, maximum six months

The intern will engage in a variety of tasks including desk research, communication, data processing, analysis, interpretation and visualization. This internship focuses on risk, resilience and adaptation directed to science, administrative bodies and communities. The intern will handle tasks with varying deadlines, from short-term assignments to ongoing project components throughout the internship duration.

Potential work tasks:

  • Update an inventory on European and national climate adaptation tools and assist in organizing a webinar/networking event of European climate adaptation web platforms as part of the AGORA project.
  • Analyse urban heat islands in the Regions4Climate project for the city of Pärnu using data from our network of 50 urban weather sensors.
  • Assist in funding applications within the Horizon Europe framwrosk and other programs.
  • Conduct desk research (web and literature, including AI-based tools) on various topics.
  • Support the preparation and review of publications and integrate our work into international research.
  • Extract information from policy documents using the new SEI AI Documents Reader (Beta version) powered by ChatGPT4.
  • Assist with water projects such as Nursecoast, TrustAlum and Biofloat as needed.
  • Conduct needs assessments for climate adaptation in Estonia and the Eastern Partnership countries.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, SEI colleagues and external experts.
  • Contribute to manage our social media and other communication channels.

Who we are looking for

Individuals educated and/or with a strong interest and experience in meteorology, climatology, geography, physics, geoinformatics or related fields.

Eligibility

  • The internship is open to all. Priority is given to motivated, matriculated university students who require an internship as part of their curriculum or for a thesis project, and to applicants with work experience looking for new challenges.

Skills

  • Beneficial technical skills:
    • Proficiency in programming for large dataset analysis.
    • Expertise in GIS for data visualization.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
