Our latest annual report – action and accountability – reviews how we made an impact last year. It offers fully transparent information on our finances and funders, a feature on SEI Africa and stories on how we delivered change in 2021 – with a spotlight on climate change.
SEI’s focus is on empowering and working with partners to co-create knowledge, resulting in ownership of results and sustained action.
Evidence is the bedrock of our engagement in policy and practice and 2021 showed our performance in high quality scientific publishing again exceed the previous year, with more papers published in top-tier journals. Last year, our researchers published more than 155 peer-reviewed articles and our citation rate also increased substantially compared with 2020 from 12 654 to 14 811.
The second section of the report presents six stories reporting on how we have achieved change in 2021. The stories show how we work with partners to drive action for sustainable development, from holding oil majors to account in landmark court decisions, to working with communities in Kenya to co-develop plans to deliver clean energy at the local level.
As an independent research and policy organization, SEI receives funding from a wide variety of sources, including government departments, development agencies, non-government organizations, businesses, academic and research groups, and financial institutions. We are grateful to our funding partners for their support in 2021.
