Alphayo Lutta

Alphayo Inyende Lutta is a Research Fellow at SEI Africa.

Joining SEI Africa in 2022, Alphayo has a wide range of knowledge and experience in research and policy engagement in natural resource management, environmental planning, and climate change. His background spans more than nine years of experience successfully promoting and directing natural resource management and climate change initiatives while building outstanding relationships with governments, policy makers, private sector partners, and the public to foster environmental awareness and understanding.

He is experienced in leading and providing support to project design and activities regarding the environment and climate change. He has researched, collaborated, and consulted with several organizations including, ILO, WWF, GIZ, SNV, VSF-Suisse, ILRI, IGAD, World Vision Kenya, Heifer International, ActionAid, Kenya Market Trust, USAID as well as the government of Kenya state department of planning.

Alphayo is a consummate researcher with an outstanding record in technical and administrative management for natural resource management projects. He also possesses expert skills in strategic management of result frameworks; developing monitoring and evaluation plans to determine performance and impact indicators and targets; developing data collection tools for monitoring project activities, outputs and progress towards anticipated results; working with data platforms and databases to capture and organize data; and contributing to institutional learning processes by ensuring effective documentation takes place, and that lessons are effectively captured, packaged and shared to maximize their uptake.

He has published in the areas of ecological economics, value chain analysis, pastoral economy, and climate change. Lutta has an MSc in Range Economics and a PhD in Range Management.  His PhD thesis was on the economic valuation of rangeland management practices in pastoral production systems.
