Alice Akinyi Kaudia is an Affiliated Researcher with over three decades of professional practice inter-phasing research-policy and practice focusing on nature and biodiversity conservation, ecosystems restoration, climate change action and pollution control; especially reducing short lived climate pollutants from waste, agriculture and household energy use.
From 2009 to 2023, she served as the Senior Africa Advisor at Climate and Clean Air Coalition and Coordinating Co-Chair of Africa Integrated Assessment of Air Pollution and Climate Change and a research affiliate at Stockholm Environment Institute. She has previously, worked at different high level policy and management positions in government, international organizations, private sector and community-based organizations. She was the first Environment Secretary in the government of Kenya (2008-2018); Technical Advisor on technical forestry curriculum development for community based participatory natural resources management ( Zambia Forestry College); regional director for Eastern Africa at the International Union for Conservation of Nature; Assistant director at Kenya Forestry Research Institute and renewable energy development projects manager at Ministry of Energy and Regional Development, Kenya. She is a thought leader and was instrumental in founding of key collaborative networks in Africa including the Africa Forest Forum, the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative, and the Kenya Professional Association of Women in Agriculture and Environment. A strong believer in collaborative partnerships for outreach to underserved communities and practical action, she continues to pursue action-oriented projects through Pristine Sustainable Ecosystems; an organization which she founded in 2023.
Her most recent publications cover wetland management policy, air pollution control and conservation of indigenous plants in agricultural and pastoral land use systems. She is a Trustee at the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya and a member of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (Kenya).
