Doreen Eleanor Brown Salazar

Scientist

Doreen is a Scientist at SEI US, working with the Water Program while pursuing a PhD in civil and environmental engineering at the University of California, Davis. She worked with SEI as an intern from November 2019 through September 2020, using WEAP to calibrate and validate physical temperature modeling of the Three Creeks system of the Santa Clara Valley Water District, and to validate and calibrate operations modeling for the project “Diseño de Análisis Robusto para el Sistema de Agua de Quito, DAR AGUA Quito”.

Doreen is an environmental engineer with a broad range of experience in California and Latin America.  Doreen has spent six years as a university engineering professor at the Universidad Tecnica del Norte in Ibarra, Ecuador, 15 years in international development on consulting projects funded by USAID in Central America and with the Peace Corps in Bolivia and Washington DC, and eight years in wastewater treatment planning and design with Carollo Engineers in California.  Her passion for international development comes from her middle school years at the Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro, when she daily witnessed people from the favelas fishing through trash to feed their families.
