Maria Xylia is a Senior Research Fellow at SEI Headquarters – Energy and Industry Transitions team. She is an expert on energy systems analysis with particular focus on fossil-free equitable transport, charging infrastructure strategies, and off-grid solutions. She is the co-lead of the SEI initiative on Gridless solutions. Other projects Maria is involved with include FFWS – Governing the transition to fossil-free welfare society, JUSTIT – Just Swedish Transport Industry Transitions, and LANDMARC exploring the potential of land-based mitigation technologies and practices. She is also working with SEI’s Strategic Policy Engagement for the EU.
Prior to SEI, Maria has worked as a senior energy systems advisor with focus on energy strategies, as a researcher on energy systems analysis and planning and as an energy technology analyst designing solar and wind power installations. She has extensive experience with project management and collaboration across various stakeholder groups, as well as teaching and student supervision.
Maria holds a PhD on energy technology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology with focus on strategic planning for charging infrastructure, a Licentiate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology on energy efficiency policies in hard to decarbonize sectors, a M.Sc. in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Dipl. Ing. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras.
