Rafaela Flach

Rafaela Flach is a Research Fellow at SEI Headquarters – Global Agendas, Climate and Systems Division. She is a part of the TraseH2O project within the Trase team. Her work focuses on water resources, water foot printing, deforestation, and trade.

Rafaela dedicated most of her career to sustainability and environmental modeling. Her research interests are centered on building interdisciplinary approaches to understanding the interactions between deforestation, climate change, water resources, and the bioeconomy.

In recent years, Rafaela has collaborated in several projects investigating the economic and environmental effects of deforestation and climate change on Brazilian agriculture.

Rafaela holds a PhD in Earth System Modelling from Hamburg University and the International Max-Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling. She also holds a M.S. in Sustainability Science, from Linköping University. For her undergraduate degree, Rafaela attended the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, earning a B.S. in Environmental Engineering.
