Rosie Witton

Rosie Witton, who joined SEI Oxford in October 2022, is a Research Fellow who focuses on climate change adaptation and related issues. She is involved in a number of projects at SEI, including:

  • AGORA (A Gathering place to cO-design and co-cReate ADaptation) – a project intended to enhance inclusive citizen engagement in building a climate-resilient society.
  • Adaptation at Altitude – a programme that seeks to increase the resilience and capacity of mountain communities and ecosystems to adapt to climate change.
  • the SEI Initiative on City Health and Well-being – a project that investigates how rapidly growing cities are affecting the well-being of residents, and how this interacts with the overall health of city systems.

Prior to joining SEI, Rosie worked in the humanitarian sector conceptualizing and coordinating research projects and teams to advocate for evidence-based responses. Her research projects examine a variety of different topics including displacement and migration, camp management and coordination, markets and livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene, and cross-sectoral topics including information management, sustainability and disaster risk reduction.

She has a master’s degree (MSc) in Geophysical Hazards from University College London (UCL). Her MSc thesis was a geographical information system (GIS) based study of the potential impact of a Makran Subduction Zone giant tsunami on Muscat, Oman, and the possibility of a complex evolving disaster with nationwide consequences.
