Uttam Ghimire is a Research Fellow in SEI Asia.
Uttam is a water resources, ecosystem and climate modeling expert of SEI Asia. He has extensive experience in developing decision support systems for sustainable water allocation, flood forecasting systems, agriculture and energy systems. He is actively involved in sector-specific climate change impact assessments and works with large datasets. He is also a trainer in capacity development modules in Geographical Information System (GIS), water modeling and climate change impact assessments. He is also currently researching process-based, and machine-learning based modeling of greenhouse gases emissions. He has programming knowledge in R, Fortran and Google Earth Engine.
Prior to joining SEI, Uttam worked as a hydrologist in Regional Integrated Multi Hazard Early Warning Systems (RIMES), Thailand. He was actively involved in developing and implementing user relevant end-to-end flood forecasting system in Southeast and South Asian countries like Myanmar, Philippines, Nepal and Bhutan. He worked on sector specific impact analysis of climate change in member countries of RIMES. He also contributed to the capacity development of several national meteorological and hydrological services in the region by providing training and workshops.
Uttam is a PhD candidate in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Guelph in Canada. He obtained his master’s degree in engineering water from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
