Sargamoy Phukan

PhD Researcher

Sagarmoy is a final-year PhD Student working on assessing the current scenario of citizen science in India. The overall aim of his research is to develop a roadmap to assist the uptake of citizen science, especially in monitoring and evaluation of environmental pollutants. He is working on developing baseline data on environmental and ecological citizen science projects in India and evaluating their achievements and challenges in the country. He has also identified the various stakeholders involved with the process in India.

He has a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Delhi and a master’s degree from TERI School of Advanced Studies in Climate Science & Policy. Prior to his PhD, he worked as an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant in JM Enviro. vt Ltd., India and as a Research Associate in All India Institute of Local Self-Government (AIILSG), India. He is also a volunteer researcher for the North East Development Agency (NEDA), India (a grassroots organisation in Assam). He also volunteered as an editor for their blog.

Sagarmoy has research interests in citizen science theory and practice as well as in urban ecosystems in India encompassing transport and urban heat islands.
