Therese Bennich

Therese Bennich is a Research Fellow at SEI Headquarters – Global Goals and Systems Team – Global Agendas, Climate and Systems Division.

Her research focuses on integrated assessments and decision support in relation to sustainability initiatives and frameworks such as the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. She is also a Project Manager of the Mistra Geopolitics program, a research program that analyses how geopolitics, environmental change and human security are interrelated.

Prior to joining SEI, her research at Stockholm University supported the formulation of new policies to reduce social vulnerability in natural and man-made disasters. In parallel to working in academia, she has been involved in multiple non-governmental organizations. For example, she has been engaged in projects related to land rights and women’s rights in Malawi and Costa Rica.

Therese has a background in sustainability science, systems analysis, and economics. She holds a joint PhD degree in Physical Geography from Stockholm University and Economics from University of Clermont Auvergne. In her PhD research, she used participatory methods and systems analysis to explore transition pathways to a bio-based economy. Her research did also seek to identify trade-offs and synergies between the bio-based economy and the Sustainable Development Goals.
