Indoor air quality is an important but underreported determinant of health. Progress in improving indoor air quality is hindered by a lack of a coherent government strategy on indoor air quality. There is no single UK policy or leadership to address indoor air quality, and responsibility for individual pollutants lies across government departments. Action on clean air is skewed towards outdoor air. Local authorities and charities are increasingly focusing on indoor air quality but lack appropriate guidance and support.

In addressing these concerns, Policy Connect held an online conversation to uncover priority actions for the next government to take forward to address air pollution at home.  SEI’s Sarah West joined a panel of experts to share insights on  air pollution in homes and priority actions for the UK government.

Indoor Air Quality Policy Think-In Online event organized by Policy Connect aimed to set priorities to tackle indoor air pollution and to ensure indoor air quality becomes a priority for new government in the United Kingdom. Before the dissolution of Parliament, Policy Connect supported the All-Party Groups on Health and Carbon Monoxide, which jointly supported a programme of advocacy, events, and awareness-raising around indoor air quality.
