SEI has been rated among the world’s most influential environment policy think tanks in the 2018 Global Go To Think Tank Index, billed as the “premier database and measure of world think tanks”.
For the sixth year in a row SEI is one of the top two think tanks in the world working on environment policy according to the Global Go To Think Tank Index.
“In the year of SEI’s 30th anniversary, I am proud that our approach to bridging science and policy is recognized as world leading,” said Åsa Persson, SEI’s Research Director. “I am also proud to find SEI’s name included in the company of peers whose work we respect highly. We will continue to strive for research excellence and uptake, and maintain focus on the needs of our stakeholders and end users to whom we are ultimately accountable.”
The University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tanks Index is designed to identify and recognize centers of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research in every region of the world. The index is based on a global survey of thousands of journalists, policy-makers, donors and specialists using a detailed list of criteria including leadership and staff; quality and reputation of the research produced; policy impact and recognition; convening power; innovation; inclusiveness; and communications. Think tanks are ranked globally and by region and expertise.
SEI is an international non-profit research and policy organization that tackles environment and development challenges. We connect science and decision-making to develop solutions for a sustainable future for all.
“Multiple scientific assessments have set out the scale of the challenges and pace of action needed to reach a sustainable future for all,” said Robert Watt, SEI’s Communications Director. “At SEI we are meeting these challenges with research that is rigorous and engaged, problem and solution driven. Throughout our work we are aiming to address inequalities and empower people with new knowledge and applicable insights. We are turning research and analysis into practical applications and services that help decision makers identify priorities, recognize trade-offs and take advantage of synergies.”
SEI’s approach is highly collaborative: stakeholder involvement is at the heart of our efforts to build capacity, strengthen institutions, and equip partners for the long term. Through our centres in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, we inform policy processes, and empower development action and business practice throughout the world.
“This ranking recognizes SEI’s strength as a provider of decision-relevant knowledge products and services in the field of environment and development,” said Marie Jürisoo, SEI’s Head of Operations and Donor Relations. “It shows that our talented and committed employees – with invaluable support from SEI’s partners, funders and global network of collaborators – continue to produce research services that are fit for purpose and provide momentum for change towards sustainability and improved livelihoods.”
