Vikrom Mathur

Dr. Vikrom Mathur is an SEI Affiliated Researcher with SEI Asia.

Currently, Vikrom is Founding Director of Transitions Research, India and a Senior Fellow of the Observer Research Foundation, India. He has over 20 years of international experience in multidisciplinary research and policy analysis at the interface of technology, society and sustainability. His research explores the role of human choice and societal decision making in face of normative and scientific uncertainty in relation to climate change, emerging technologies and human settlements.

He is now setting up India’s first urban living lab in the city of Panjim – as a platform to test and fine tune socio-technical innovation to address urban challenges in the real-life laboratory of cities and neighborhoods. His ongoing research on human choice and climate change examines the human and social dimension of climate change in India. He also researches norms and institutions can help manage environmental opportunities and challenges associated with emerging technologies.

He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University, Institute for Science, Society and Innovation. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from McGill University.

Prior to this, Vikrom worked for SEI from 1997 to 2012.
