Christian Holz

Dr. Christian Holz is the Senior Research Associate at the Climate Equity Reference Project — a long-standing research and advocacy collaboration of SEI and EcoEquity — and the Executive Director of the Climate Equity Reference Project Canada.

Christian’s field of research is international and Canadian climate change politics, with an overall research agenda focused on the role of equity and fairness as enablers of ambitious domestic and international action on addressing climate change. Christian also researches the role of civil society in international climate change politics and advises several Canadian and international organizations on climate policy, including, among others, Climate Action Network International, Réseau action climat Canada, and the Major Groups’ Partnership on Forests.

Prior to joining the Climate Equity Reference Project, Christian was a researcher in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Carleton University and in the School for Political Studies at the University of Ottawa. Prior to that, Christian served as the Executive Director of Climate Action Network Canada, a network of over 100 organizations committed to collaborating to advance action on climate change at all levels of government in Canada; Christian now serves on its board of directors. Christian has also been involved with Climate Action Network International’s advocacy work at the UN climate change negotiations for over a decade, and is currently a co-coordinator of the network’s Global Stocktake working group, as well as a member of its board of directors. Christian received a PhD from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
