This project aims to provide support in identifying and characterising critical interactions between a selection of environmental SDGs, and all SDGs at EU scale. We will create an evidence-based illustration of synergies and trade-offs associated to the pursuit of environmental goals and targets within the SDGs framework and elaborate on implications for policy, research and governance in the EU context.
Some of the work include:
- Developing a short paper presenting the added value of the SDGs interactions approach for knowledge base development and policy design in support of sustainable development and updating on the state of play as regards to related research and policy initiatives in Europe and worldwide.
- Adapting the existing analytical framework based on the seven-point scale interactions type approach to identify, characterise and reflect on the most relevant SDGs interactions at target level and at the EU scale related to a selection of environmental SDGs. This includes the participation to a validation meeting at the EEA premises.
- Running a sub-sequent knowledge-based analysis in the form of a matrix and a background report that identifies, characterises and reflects on the most relevant SDGs interactions at target level and at the EU scale related to a selection of “environmental SDGs”.
- Developing a short document summarising key findings, elaborating on their key implications for policy design, research and governance in the EU context, and proposing options for the EEA to further develop this line of work.
