Mistra Mineral Governance

Ensuring sufficient access to critical minerals crucial to the low-carbon energy transition in a fair and sustainable way can become a complex balancing act.

Active project

2024–2028

Critical minerals play an important role in the low carbon energy transition. Ensuring sufficient access to such raw materials in a fair and sustainable way can become a complex balancing act requiring particular governance approaches. To help public and private decision-makers in Sweden and in the EU navigate this landscape, Mistra Mineral Governance research project will:

  • Analyze what current and future supply chains might look like
  • Consider the geopolitical and market context in which energy transitions take place
  • Identify potential goal conflicts and their solutions
  • Co-create new ways to govern the transition while protecting human rights, promoting social justice and enhancing competitiveness
