Dr Ruth Butterfield is Centre Director of SEI Oxford. Her background is in agriculture, water and climate change impacts and adaptation. She is currently contributing to and developing the SEI Oxford’s weADAPT platform.
Ruth’s specific contribution is the development of climate change vulnerability assessments for countries involved in ACCCA projects using GIS, models and multiple data sources.
She has reviewed national programmes on impact and adaptation for the UK Climate Impacts Programme; and developed strategies for making adaptation policy in the agriculture and water sectors for Defra’s Objective setting for climate change adaptation policy project.
Previously she has conducted research on: household water use for UK national assessment of climate change and demand for water (CCDEW); seasonal climate forecasting in southern African and potential implications for sustainable livelihoods (CLOUD); and multiple stresses for a study on Scoping uncertainty in the Social cost of carbon: A closer look at uncertainty (SCCU).
Previously at the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford, she worked on two of the largest EU projects on climate change impacts and European agriculture, CLIVARA and CLAIRE.
