Marlon Passos is a Research Associate at the Water Coasts & Ocean Team at SEI Headquarters. He is currently working with risk and vulnerability assessments of critical infrastructures under multiple hazards within the HydroHazards project.
Prior to SEI, he worked as a coastal engineer at Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong where he joined the Geotechnics and Maritime Team. He did research on the impacts of direct-hit tropical cyclones in Hong Kong, focused on extreme storm surge, wave height, wind speed and rainfall conditions. He conducted hydrodynamic modelling of storm events and analysis of hydrometeorological data. In his master thesis project, Marlon investigated the effects of openings along overhanging coastal structures on wave load reduction using an analytical pressure-impulse model and computational fluid dynamics.
Marlon holds B.Sc in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology of Parana, Brazil. After studying in Norway, United Kingdom and the Netherlands, he completed a M.Sc in Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management at Delft University of Technology.
