This virtual event occurred 26 October 2022, when the Lancet Countdown published its seventh-annual indicator report in The Lancet, in the year that marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
SEI was a co-sponsor of the virtual launch event. SEI Scientist Ploy Achakulwisut led a case study in the report on the health impacts of oil and gas extraction in the US, and served as a reviewer for the brief.
This year’s report represents the work of 99 researchers from 51 institutions in every continent. With 43 new and updated indicators, it launched ahead of the 27th UN Conference of the Parties (COP27), as countries and health systems grappled with the health, social and economic implications of climate change, the global energy crisis, and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The 2022 report of the Lancet Countdown provides new evidence to support accelerated climate action to protect the health of populations around the world.
