The Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General commissioned the Stockholm Environment Institute to develop a project and strategy as part of a UN-led effort to support and accelerate action on the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.

The project involves the participation of researchers in SEI Africa, Asia, Headquarters and Latin America.
The project (“PO-2200177912 Supporting and Accelerating the Localization of the Sustainable Development Goals”) involves a wide range of participating stakeholders and organizations. Many local actors have contributed information about their experiences to underpin the case studies.
The project involves input from key stakeholders from international organizations, national governments, networks, local governments and representatives of the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General (EOSG), the United Nations Humane Settlement Programme (UN-HABITAT), the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Coordination Office (DCO), the United Nations Regional Commissions, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
