UNEA 6 Event: Why faith matters matter in multilateralism to combat climate change impacts, biodiversity loss and plastic pollution

This UNEA 6 event brings together faith actors to showcase their efforts in using faith as an instrument to foster dialogue for environmental policymaking with a focus on the activities of selected organizations toward combating climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.  SEI will introduce the Swahili translation of “Our common home” – an illustrated, easy-to-grasp practical guide to protecting our planet, co-created with the Vatican’s Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

The booklet is inspired by Pope Francis’s groundbreaking Encyclical #LaudatoSi, providing a foundational understanding on climate change, biodiversity, and sustainability challenges, and ways individuals and communities can take action. SEI is partnering with the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA).

The event will also show the role of faith in informing government positions within the multilateral arena. Drawing from experiences in the UNFCCC, UNCBD and UNEA processes, the organizations will show how they have been able to influence policy at international levels and across different multilateral platforms while informing grassroots action as informed by faith. Further, the event will also provide practical insights on breaking barriers to create meaningful partnerships through interfaith collaborations and engagements within the multilateral processes.
