For some, damages from climate change will not outweigh the cost of mitigation efforts until well into the 22nd century. Others will suffer much sooner.
SEI-US researchers Elizabeth A. Stanton and Ramón Bueno, co-authors of Real People, Real Impacts: The Climate Impact Equity Lens, describe the findings of their case study of projected climate-change impacts on individuals in the Caribbean region. While for some, damages from climate change will not outweigh the cost of mitigation efforts until well into the 22nd century, they find, others will be suffering severe impacts within the next few decades – a distinction that is obscured by regional averages. This highlights the importance of considering the most vulnerable populations when crafting climate policy.
