Satish Prasad

Research Fellow

Dr Satish Prasad is a Research Fellow at SEI Asia. He is leading the Remote Sensing Component at Water cluster with a focus on transformative innovations in water resource management across Asia. He joined SEI in January 2023.

His expertise as a landscape ecologist encompasses Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), with a rich professional background in diverse areas including river and wetland ecosystems, landscape planning, climate change, and water resource management.

Dedicated to the conservation of river and wetland ecosystems, Dr Prasad’s approach is both analytical and solution oriented. He specializes in developing ecological and remote sensing-based tools to enhance decision-making and planning in the management of wetland and riverine ecosystems, with particular emphasis on flood risk mitigation, landscape design, and climate change adaptation. Presently, Dr Prasad is focused on developing a cloud-based automated tool for mapping and monitoring wetland dynamics in Thailand’s Lower Songkhram River Basin and the Meghna River Basin in India and Bangladesh.

Dr Prasad’s significant contributions extend to community resilience through ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction, advocating nature-based solutions, and promoting sustainable practices to address water-related risks. His interdisciplinary work also encompasses the interaction between plastics and wetlands, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to environmental conservation.

Dr Prasad has presented his research at various international forums and his findings are published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, with a specialization in Remote Sensing, from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi, India.
