Mario Cárdenas

Research Associate

Mario Cárdenas is a Research Associate at SEI Latin America, where he supports the centre’s work on the Sustainable Transitions research team.

His research interests focus on the interplay between the carbon and water cycles through vegetation. Specifically, he studies the feedback between the biosphere and the atmosphere, remote sensing, soil-atmosphere interactions, vegetation biogeochemistry, modeling, the use of eddy-covariance data, machine learning, and statistical methods for data analysis.

He implements vegetation biogeochemical dynamics and regional climate models to carry out his research. He also uses remote sensing data, such as satellite images, and Machine Learning to monitor changes in ecosystems.

Mario Cárdenas holds a Bachelor of Science in Ecology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Natural Sciences from the Universidad del Rosario, also in Bogotá.
