Bioenergy in Kenya: Making tea production sustainable

Tea production is a key industry in Kenya, where millions of people depend on it for a living. Can waste from sugarcane make processing the crop more environmentally friendly?

SEI helped to assess a large scale application of sugarcane-based bagasse briquettes in a tea processing facility in Kenya, using the criteria and evaluation framework developed as part of the SEI Initiative on Governing Bioeconomy Pathways.

Deutsche Welle (DW) made a short movie about the assessment, featuring Rocio Diaz Chaves, Deputy Centre Director at SEI Africa.
